Internships
Each year
our seniors take two weeks to explore career or vocational choices for future
consideration. The internship program is part of the senior communications
class, and it allows our seniors to gain real world experience in their chosen
field.
Campus Ministry
St. Joseph Central Catholic is
part of the larger Catholic community in Huntington, WV. The school is guided
by the principles of the Catholic Church, and is governed by the Bishop of
Wheeling-Charleston. St. Joseph works with the surrounding Catholic parishes to
provide a strong spiritual direction to the school.
Each day and class begins with
prayer, and every afternoon ends with a prayer of thanksgiving. Our students
attend bi-monthly liturgies, yearly retreats, prayer services, and
reconciliation services. Our students are encouraged to develop a strong faith
life, and recognize that all things are possible only through God.
Service - Our Christian Duty
St. Joseph provides over 5,000
service hours to the tri-state area each year. All students are required to
perform service to the school, church and community. The service hours required
beginning with the 2005-2006 school year are:
Grades 7 & 8
12 hours per year
Grades 9 & 10
22 hours per year
Grades 11 & 12
32 hours per year
No more than 1/2 the hours can be
attained with one project, and you must have at least 3 hours in each of the
required areas.
If a student performed 1 hour per
week throughout the year, they would have more than enough hours to complete the
requirement. Failure to complete the service requirement will result in holding
of records and report cards.
“For I was hungry and you gave me
food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked
and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me…
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did to one of these least brothers of mine, you
did for me.”
Mt. 25: 35-40
Music Ministry
St. Joseph Music Ministry is well
known throughout the Diocese o f
Wheeling-Charleston,
and is a blessed part of our school community. The Music Ministry group meets
outside the school day to prepare and practice music for liturgies and other
prayer opportunities. The Music Ministry program travels to Wheeling, WV to
provide instruction and music for several Catholic schools in the Wheeling
area. In addition to playing for our school masses,
our Music Ministry provides music
for several local Christian churches throughout the tri-state area each year. |
