It might be football season, but some of the biggest news from the week came from the basketball floor.
Marshall Reynolds has stepped down as boys basketball coach for Huntington St. Joe, and the school announced that Ross Scaggs has taken his place.
Huntington St. Joe Athletic Director Shannon Lewis said that Reynolds cited business obligations for his resignation. Reynolds is the owner of Champion Industries, Inc.
Reynolds led the Irish to the region final in his one season at the helm.
After Reynolds resigned, school officials immediately started the search for a new coach.
It didn't take long for the school to decide on Scaggs, who was hired on Aug. 13.
To this day, Scaggs is regarded as one of the top players ever to come out of the storied basketball program at Logan High School. He played there from 1971-74 and led Logan to the 1974 Class AAA title game where they lost to Charleston High School, 81-74.
From there, Scaggs went to West Virginia University where he played in 15 games, starting one.
Following the one season with the Mountaineers, he transferred to Marshall where he played the 1976-77 season while also playing golf for the Thundering Herd.
He continued his golf career at Marshall through the 1978-79 season and has since been a fixture in the Huntington community.
Currently, Scaggs is Senior Vice President at Hilliard Lyons in Huntington and is also on the Huntington YMCA Board of Directors.
